The Student Council hosted its annual Hat Day at Norris School on December 21, just before holiday break, and the school was filled with crazy and bizarre hats of all shapes and sizes. Just as important, the council was able to raise a whopping $450 for its ongoing work to support a group that provides assistance dogs for disabled people.

Mr. Hodgson and Mr. McCarthy pose on the morning of Hat Day in their hats:

With the addition of the Hat Day funding, we are less than $200 away from our goal of raising $1,000 for the effort, and plans are already underway for another fundraiser in the new year.

This is the new virtual home of the Norris School Student Council.

We hope to use this site as a place for news and events related to the work of the student leaders at the Norris Elementary School in Southampton, Massachusetts.

So far this year, the council has:

  • Collected more than 100 new toys for a Lakota Indian Tribe in North Dakota (this is an annual event for the school)
  • Sponsored a Mix It Up Day for fifth and sixth graders in the cafeteria to promote tolerance and friendship
  • Hosted a Pajama Day as a way to begin raising money for a program called NEADS that trains and provides assistance dogs for disabled combat veterans

  • Launched a student-written and -produced newspaper called Tigger Talk
  • and began planning more ideas to promote school spirit and community service in our school and town.
